Gain Hands-On Experience Supporting Community Care
Rae’s Safe Haven welcomes students interested in gaining hands-on experience supporting programs that strengthen and empower LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalized communities.
Our internships provide opportunities to learn about nonprofit operations, community outreach, program development, and advocacy while working in an affirming, community-centered environment.
Students will have the opportunity to develop professional skills while contributing to meaningful work that directly impacts the community.
Internship Areas
Interns at Rae’s Safe Haven may gain experience in a variety of areas depending on their academic program and placement requirements.
Community Outreach
Assist with outreach initiatives, community engagement, and connecting individuals with local resources.
Program Development
Support the planning and implementation of programs such as community meals, workshops, and support initiatives.
Event Planning
Help coordinate fundraising events, educational lectures, community gatherings, and outreach activities.
Resource Navigation
Assist with identifying and sharing resources for housing assistance, mental health services, recovery support, and other community needs.
Nonprofit Operations
Gain exposure to nonprofit administration including program coordination, volunteer management, and community partnerships.
Eligible Fields of Study
We welcome students from a variety of academic programs, including:
• Social Work • Counseling • Psychology • Public Health • Nonprofit Leadership • Human Services • Sociology • Community Development • Other related disciplines
Supervision & Professional Support
Rae’s Safe Haven is able to support students completing internship, practicum, or field placement requirements through qualified professional supervision.
Students will have access to mentorship and oversight from professionals including:
• Master of Social Work (MSW)
• Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
• Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor (LPCC-S)
This supervision allows students to gain meaningful learning experiences while meeting academic requirements for their programs.
Internship Expectations
Internships may include opportunities to:
• Participate in community outreach initiatives
• Assist with events and program coordination
• Support resource navigation efforts
• Help develop educational and advocacy materials
• Engage in nonprofit program support and operations

Internship Requirments
Students interested in completing an internship with Rae’s Safe Haven should:
• Be enrolled in an accredited academic program
• Be completing internship, practicum, or field placement hours
• Demonstrate a commitment to community support and inclusivity
• Be willing to collaborate with staff and volunteers
